Systems, kits, and methods for programming infusion systems are disclosed. A system comprises an infusion device and a mock pump set. The infusion device is programmable with at least one infusion protocol. The infusion device includes a pathway adapted to receive a pump set and at least one pump adapted to pump fluid through the pump set when the pump set is received in the pathway. The mock pump set is sized to be received in the pathway of the infusion device, and is not configured to receive fluid from the fluid container. A kit comprises the mock pump set. A method comprises inserting a mock pump set in a pathway of an infusion device and programming the infusion device with at least one infusion protocol while the mock pump set is received in the pathway.

Abstract:
Chemiluminescent of metabolic by-products of inosine and hypoxanthine is used to diagnose acute ischemic events in human subjects.
Split And Multiple Air Bubble Sensors For Automated Infusion Systems
Systems and methods for sensing bubbles during fluid infusion are disclosed. An infusion device comprises a pathway, at least one pump adjacent the pathway, first and second bubble sensors positioned adjacent the pathway, and a processor. The pathway is adapted to receive tubing. The pump alters the pathway to pump fluid through the tubing when the tubing is received in the pathway. The second bubble sensor is spaced from the first bubble sensor. The first and second bubble sensors are configured to detect a bubble in the fluid being pumped through the tubing. The processor is programmed to determine that the first bubble sensor detects a bubble, determine whether the second bubble sensor detects a bubble, and to generate an alarm condition only when the first bubble sensor and the second bubble sensor detect the same bubble.
Intelligent Air Bubble Detector And Counters For Automated Infusion Systems
Systems and methods for sensing bubbles during fluid infusion are disclosed. An infusion device comprises a pathway, a pump adjacent the pathway, one or more bubble sensors, and first and second modules. The pump alters the pathway to pump fluid through tubing received in the pathway. The bubble sensors are configured to detect bubbles in the fluid being pumped through the tubing. The first module is configured to generate a first alarm condition when the bubble sensors detect a bubble having a first volume above a first preselected threshold. The second module is configured to generate a second alarm condition when the bubble sensors detect a plurality of bubbles over a preselected period of time having a combined volume above a second preselected threshold. A third module may be also be used to record a total combined volume of bubbles detected by the bubble sensors during an infusion event.

US Classification:

Abstract:
A self-priming IV set valve includes a connector including a valve element that is positioned inside of the connector, and a cap that is removably connected to the connector. When the cap is mounted to the connector a passageway is formed in the connector such that air and liquid are permitted to pass through the connector and into the cap whereupon a hydrophobic filter of the cap prevents the passage of liquid there through while the hydrophobic filter permits the passage of air out of the cap and into the atmosphere. When the cap is not mounted to the connector, the valve element of the connector is configured to open under pressure and close when pressure ceases. Also disclosed is a method of priming the IV set, a cap assembly for a self-priming IV set valve, and a connector for a self-priming IV set valve.

Abstract:
A cap assembly for a self-priming IV set valve includes a body portion that is configured to be removably connected to the IV set valve; a hydrophobic filter that is mounted to the body portion; and an actuator having a free end that is configured to either puncture, move or displace a valve element of the IV set valve. A fluid passageway is disposed either in or along the actuator. When the cap assembly is mounted to the IV set valve, the actuator either punctures, moves or displaces the valve element of the IV set valve such that air and liquid within the IV set valve can flow through the fluid passageway and onto the hydrophobic filter, whereupon the hydrophobic filter of the cap assembly prevents the passage of liquid through the hydrophobic filter while the hydrophobic filter permits the passage of air there-through and into the atmosphere.
