Abstract:
A gerotor pump for pressurizing gasoline fuel is capable of developing pressures up to 2. 0 MPa with good mechanical and volumetric efficiency and satisfying the durability requirements for an automotive fuel pump. The pump has been designed with optimized clearances and by including features that promote the formation of lubricating films of pressurized fuel. Features of the improved pump include the use of a shadow port in the side plate opposite the outlet port to promote balancing of high fuel pressures on the opposite sides of the rotors. Inner and outer rotors have predetermined side clearances with the clearances of the outer rotor being greater than those of the inner rotor in order to promote fuel pressure balance on the sides of the outer rotor. Support of the inner rotor and a drive shaft on a single bushing with bearing sleeves maintains concentricity. Additional features are disclosed.

Abstract:
A fuel pump for supplying fuel at high fuel pressures includes a stationary body having a plurality of radial cylinders connecting with a central fuel chamber. Inlet and outlet passages communicate with the fuel chamber. Plungers are reciprocated in the cylinders by cam followers reciprocable in follower recesses of the body. A rotary internal cam engages the cam followers and is configured to reciprocate the plungers in timed relation to sequentially draw fuel from the inlet passage into the central fuel chamber and alternately force fuel from the central fuel chamber to the outlet passage in response to rotation of the rotary cam. A preferred embodiment includes paired smaller and larger diameter cylinders and pistons which are sequentially actuated in overlapping fashion to minimize pulsing of the pressurized fuel discharged from the pump into associated engine fuel lines.

Abstract:
A fuel vaporizer includes at least one surface and at least one glass coated thick film resistor applied to the at least one surface. The thick film resistor heats the surface and liquid fuel vaporizes on contact with the heated surface. By employing glass coated thick film, the fuel vaporizer provides a compact and economical solution for generating heat on a large heat transfer surface area. By integrating a temperature sensor into each heating area, the temperature of each heating area may be monitored and controlled individually. By providing multiple heated surface and multiple heater stages, rapid and complete fuel vaporization is provided. The generated fuel vapor may be used for any number of exhaust after-treatment processes, such as in exhaust fuel injection, diesel particulate filter burnout by igniting the vapor to perform fast warm-up of a nitrogen oxide absorber, or as an oxidation catalyst.

Exemplary embodiments of the present invention are directed towards improved systems and methods for the delivery of urea to an exhaust gas treatment system. In one exemplary embodiment, a urea pump assembly for an exhaust treatment system is provided. The pump assembly includes a housing comprising: a housing chamber, a first fluid inlet and a first fluid outlet, the first fluid inlet being in fluid communication with the first fluid outlet through a first conduit. The housing also comprises a second fluid inlet and a second fluid outlet, the second fluid inlet being in fluid communication with the second fluid outlet through a second flexible conduit. The second flexible conduit is located within a portion of the housing chamber and in thermal communication with the first conduit. The pump assembly also includes a pump located within the housing chamber, the pump being engaged with the second conduit and configured to move fluid between the second fluid inlet and the second fluid outlet.
