  • System For Controlling Relative Movement Of Portions Of A Bed

    view source
  • US Patent:
    40940241, Jun 13, 1978
  • Filed:
    Aug 30, 1976
  • Appl. No.:
    5/718507
  • Inventors:
Roland A. Benoit - Danielson CT
    Edmund Guillot - Putnam CT
  • Assignee:
InterRoyal Corporation - New York NY
  • International Classification:
    A61G 710
  • US Classification:
    5 66
  • Abstract:
System for controlling selective relative positional movement of portions of a bed structure with respect to a main supporting bed base frame, such as in a hospital bed, in which a single common motor controllable, e. g. by suitably actuatable switch means, for driving operation selectively in alternative forward and reverse directions is utilized, and which contemplates a plurality of independently operable individual motion transmission means connectable to such bed structure portions for correspondingly effecting the selective relative positional movement thereof with respect to the main supporting bed base frame, e. g. for head, knee and high-low adjustments of the bed, plus common drive transmission means connected to the common motor for corresponding operation thereby in such directions for driving in turn the motion transmission means, coupling means actuatable for operatively coupling and uncoupling the individual motion transmission means with the common drive transmission means, and common uniselective control means operatively connected to the coupling means for uniselectively actuating the coupling means for coupling the common drive transmission means with a selective individual motion transmission means and for simultaneously preventing the coupling of the common drive transmission means with the remaining corresponding motion transmission means, whereby to control such selective relative positional movement, preferably with remote override control means arranged operatively for selectively preventing the actuating of the coupling means by the common uniselective control means and for independently selectively controlling the actuation of the coupling means.
  • Extensible Support Assembly For Overbed Table

    view source
  • US Patent:
    41955781, Apr 1, 1980
  • Filed:
    Aug 14, 1978
  • Appl. No.:
    5/933239
  • Inventors:
Roland A. Benoit - Danielson CT
Edmund P. Guillot - Danielson CT
  • Assignee:
Interroyal Corporation - New York NY
  • International Classification:
    A47B 900
    F16M 1124
  • US Classification:
    108144
  • Abstract:
Extensible support assembly for a table such as an overbed table to interconnect the top table portion and bottom stand portion thereof to change the table height, including a pair of axially overlapping upper and lower vertical support members arranged for relative axial movement therebetween, and a releasable unidirectional jamming mechanism interposed between the members having an inclined wedge surface on the upper member in opposed relation to a substantially axially extending contact surface on the lower member and forming a jamming wedge zone with the contact surface, a movable jamming roller element disposed in the jamming wedge zone, and a movable release element disposed operatively adjacent to the jamming element, such that the jamming element is movable independently of the wedge surface, contact surface and release element and is normally resiliently biased by a spring or the like independently of the release element into unidirectional jamming engagement between the wedge surface and contact surface for jamming the members against further corresponding relative movement, e. g. to decrease the table height, and furthermore such that the release element is similarly movable independently of the jamming element for releasably urging the jamming element out of such unilateral jamming engagement to permit further corresponding relative movement between the members, and preferably with antifriction guide bearing structures removably carried on the members for mounting various parts of the assembly thereat and forming corresponding removable units to facilitate assembly and disassembly of such parts.
  • Breakaway Hanger

    view source
  • US Patent:
    49326260, Jun 12, 1990
  • Filed:
    May 5, 1989
  • Appl. No.:
    7/347868
  • Inventors:
Edmund P. Guillot - Putnam CT
  • Assignee:
Gem Industries Inc. - Gardner MA
  • International Classification:
    F16M 1300
  • US Classification:
    248548
  • Abstract:
A breakaway hanger comprising a multi-slotted rod, and a separate strap of hook and loop material in adjacent slots i. e. in pairs, said straps dangling from the slotted rod and interengaged to form loops that break away when an excess weight is applied.
  • Safety Side For Hospital Bed

    view source
  • US Patent:
    41033760, Aug 1, 1978
  • Filed:
    Mar 29, 1977
  • Appl. No.:
    5/782485
  • Inventors:
Roland A. Benoit - Danielson CT
Edmund P. Guillot - Danielson CT
  • Assignee:
InterRoyal Corporation - New York NY
  • International Classification:
    A47C 2100
  • US Classification:
    5331
  • Abstract:
Raisable safety side apparatus for one or both sides of a hospital bed comprising in each instance a corresponding side frame pivotally connected to lever means, e. g. a pair of spaced apart or parallel levers, adapted to be mounted operatively on a bed to move the side frame from a lower or inoperative position to an upper or operative position with respect to the bed, and resilient biasing means operatively interposed between the frame and the lever means to urge normally the frame to the upper position, e. g. a longitudinal bilateral resilient biasing member mounted intermediate its ends on the frame and operatively connected at its ends to the corresponding levers, such as crank levers, whereby to bend the bilateral biasing member out of its normal longitudinal disposition as the levers move the frame from the upper position to the lower position against the resilient force of such bilateral biasing member; and optionally including means to limit the pivotal movement between the frame and the lever means upon moving the frame to the upper position, and releasable locking means to maintain the frame in the upper position.
  • Crib With Stabilizer Bar And Hidden Connector For Stabilizer Bar

    view source
  • US Patent:
    50849239, Feb 4, 1992
  • Filed:
    Jun 13, 1990
  • Appl. No.:
    7/537897
  • Inventors:
Edmund P. Guillot - Putnam CT
  • Assignee:
Gem Industries Inc. - Gardner MA
  • International Classification:
    A47D 700
  • US Classification:
    5 931
  • Abstract:
A dropside crib that can be set up and taken down without tools, the crib including a lengthwise stabilizer bar for the dropside side thereof, the stabilizer bar having a pair of vertically aligned spaced hooks at each end, the hooks extending toward the person operating the crib, and a pair of hook receiving slots on the corner posts of the crib in position to accept the hooks when the bar is manually correctly aligned, and having entered the hooks in the slots, the operator merely pushes down on the bar to removably secure the parts, the hooks being tapered.
