  • Fibrous Seal For Blowout Preventer

    view source
  • US Patent:
    57135819, Feb 3, 1998
  • Filed:
    Feb 21, 1996
  • Appl. No.:
    8/604264
  • Inventors:
Douglas W. Carlson - Kingwood TX
Stephen P. Simons - Kingwood TX
William D. Breach - Kingwood TX
  • Assignee:
    Hydril Company - Houston TX
  • International Classification:
    F16J 1502
  • US Classification:
    277188R
  • Abstract:
A high pressure seal material, such as for a lateral "T" seal of a shear ram blowout preventer, is disclosed wherein the seal material is preferably nitrile rubber and includes uniformly dispersed synthetic, non-cellulosic fibers in parallel alignment to resist rollover action occurring transverse to the applied compressive force by orienting the aligned fibers parallel to the axis of the applied force. The material is made in a milling process that aligns and maintains the alignment of the fibers. The milled sheet is then cut into appropriately shaped pieces. The pieces are rotated 90. degree. , plied and cured to make the final material, which curing can be done in a suitable mold so that the final product is in its desired final shape.
  • Carbon Black System And Improved Rubber Stock

  • US Patent:
    52942538, Mar 15, 1994
  • Filed:
    May 3, 1993
  • Appl. No.:
    8/056821
  • Inventors:
Douglas W. Carlson - Kingwood TX
William D. Breach - Humble TX
  • Assignee:
    Hydril Company - Houston TX
  • International Classification:
    C09C 144
  • US Classification:
    106475
  • Abstract:
An improved rubber stock with a unique carbon black system including mismatched pairs of furnace blacks with fumed silica and a silane coupler has been developed. The carbon black system includes a mixture of large and small particles with high and low structure carbon black pairs. The carbon black system compounded with polar and nonpolar rubber provides products with a range of desirable characteristics using only two carbon blacks.
  • Chemical And Heat Resistant Rubber Composition

    view source
  • US Patent:
    46846875, Aug 4, 1987
  • Filed:
    Dec 13, 1985
  • Appl. No.:
    6/808528
  • Inventors:
William D. Breach - Humble TX
Edwin W. Vaclavik - Houston TX
  • Assignee:
    Hydril Company - Houston TX
  • International Classification:
    C08K 304
    C08K 513
  • US Classification:
    524291
  • Abstract:
A composition for use in piping and pump systems for elevated temperature, steam and certain chemical resistant applications of ethylene-propylene copolymer with peroxide generated carbon to carbon crosslinkage. Effective amounts of antioxidants, carbon black, lubricant, thermal stabilizer and aid to peroxide crosslinkage is added. An antioxidant and thermal stabilizer system is used to produce a product with unusual thermal stability characteristics. The composition may also have a mixture of high and low particle size carbon black which acts as an antioxidant and reinforcing system. The composition may also use very fine particle carbon black for a highly elastic application. The composition can be used for rubber components which are exposed to a high temperature or to certain chemical environments, or where unusually high elasticity is required.
  • Carbon Black Pair With Different Particle Size And Improved Rubber Stock
