Chasing Aces, who helped set the early pace along with 4-5 favorite Straight Fire, suffered a broken left knee, was pulled up at the top of the stretch by his jockey Tyler Baze, and had to be euthanized afterward. It was the 17th time that a horse had to be put down because of injury this summer.
Tyler Baze, who rode fifth-place finisher Her Emmynency, lodged an objection, saying Nancy From Nairobi drifted out in early stretch, forcing his mount wide. The stewards reviewed the tapes but did not change the order of finish.
