Roney J. Mateu, FAIA Elected to College of Fellows of The American Institute of Architects American Institute of Architects PRESS RELEASE February 10, 2012
RONEY J. MATEU, FAIA
ELECTED TO THE COLLEGE OF FELLOWS OF THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS
Roney J. Mateu, AIA, President and Director of Design for MATEU Architecture, Inc., has been elected to The College of Fellows of The American Institute of Architects. The Jury of Fellows selected Mateu for elevation to Fellowship in the Institute because of his notable contributions to the advancement of the profession of architecture in the field of Design.
He will be honored and will receive his Fellowship Medal during an Investiture of The Fellows Ceremony at the AIA National Convention in Washington, DC, in May 2012.
The College of Fellows was developed to elevate those architects who have made a significant contribution to architecture and society and who have achieved a standard of excellence in the profession. Election to Fellowship not only recognizes the achievements of architects as individuals, but also their significant contribution to architecture and society on a national level. Out of a total AIA membership of around 80,000 nationally, Mateu joins fewer than 3,000 members distinguished with the honor of Fellowship and Honorary Fellowship. He is one of only 105 members nationally to be elevated to Fellowship in 2012, one of only four in the state of Florida, and the only one in Florida elevated for his contributions in the category of Design this year.
The Fellowship submittal summarizes his work as: “Roney Mateu's architecture is internationally recognized for an economy of design that is functional, yet expressive; of modest materials, yet experimentally rich; full of generous light, contextual and humane: of an uncompromised timeless modern tradition”.
Throughout his 32 years career, Mateu has been the recipient of over 58 AIA Design Awards for his work in architecture.
