  • International Classification:
    F22B 37/16
  • US Classification:
    122 7R, 12223523, 12223514
  • Abstract:
An economizer for a heat recovery steam generator utilized to improve the efficiency of the Rankine cycle by preheating the water that flows to the evaporator section. The economizer multi-pass sections include up-flow tubes only. This arrangement greatly reduces thermal stresses on the tubes by ensuring that each individual tube in any fluid-flow pass operates at the same or similar temperature. The design of the invention does this by causing all tubes in any fluid-flow pass to have the same upwards fluid flow direction and similar fluid flow velocity. No unstable backflow (i. e. flow in the reverse direction) occurs in any of the tubes. Heated down-flow tube sections are totally eliminated in this design. Respective jumper pipes are provided to conduct the water from the top of an economizer panel to the bottom of an adjacent panel.
  • Boiler Cleaning Apparatus And Method

    view source
  • US Patent:
    8002902, Aug 23, 2011
  • Filed:
    May 15, 2008
  • Appl. No.:
    12/153258
  • Inventors:
Robert J. Krowech - Eden Prairie MN, US
  • International Classification:
    B08B 3/00
  • US Classification:
    134 34, 134 39, 1510404, 254104
  • Abstract:
The boiler cleaning apparatus and method provides for cleaning the exterior surfaces of a heat exchanger. The apparatus and method include tools and steps, respectively, for temporarily spreading tubes with a wedge and holding open the tubes with a block to form and gain access to tube lanes. Once access to a lane is attained, a nozzle assembly having an outlet for blowing high velocity cleaning fluid is selected from a group of nozzle assemblies. The selected nozzle assembly will have an outlet for blowing fluid in a direction that effectively cleans the tubes adjacent the opened lane. After the tubes are cleaned the tool for holding the lane opened is removed and the process is repeated for another lane.
  • Dual Chemistry Steam Drum

  • US Patent:
    20130220238, Aug 29, 2013
  • Filed:
    Feb 28, 2012
  • Appl. No.:
    13/407354
  • Inventors:
Robert James Krowech - Eden Prairie MN, US
  • Assignee:
HRST, INC. - Eden Prairie MN
  • International Classification:
    F22B 37/26
  • US Classification:
    122491
  • Abstract:
A partitioned drum for a heat recovery steam generator comprising a first chamber and a second chamber. The first chamber has a chemical inlet for chemically treating a flow medium, at least one inlet for the flow medium and at least one outlet for the flow medium. The second chamber has one inlet for the flow medium and at least one outlet for the flow medium. The flow medium present in the first chamber is treated with a chemical to prevent flow assisted corrosion, while the flow medium present in the second chamber is available as a source of fluid for the boiler feed pump.
  • Self-Energizing Seal

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20140015203, Jan 16, 2014
  • Filed:
    Aug 8, 2012
  • Appl. No.:
    13/569764
  • Inventors:
Robert James Krowech - Eden Prairie MN, US
  • International Classification:
    F16J 15/02
  • US Classification:
    277616, 277590
  • Abstract:
A self-energizing seal includes a housing and a plurality of annular seal ring segments movable relative to the housing. The annular seal ring segments include a circumferential slot and a plurality of holes defining a flow passage into the circumferential slot. A plurality of self-energizing ring segments are disposed in the circumferential slot. The annular seal ring segments and the self-energizing ring segments establish a seal with the exterior of a pipe and permit movement of the pipe in a direction orthogonal to the axis of the pipe.

  • Apparatus And Method For Soot Cleaning In High-Pressure Heat Exchangers

    view source
  • US Patent:
    44210671, Dec 20, 1983
  • Filed:
    Sep 7, 1982
  • Appl. No.:
    6/415318
  • Inventors:
Robert J. Krowech - Minneapolis MN
  • Assignee:
    Deltak Corporation - Minneapolis MN
  • International Classification:
    F22B 3752
    F28G 900
  • US Classification:
    122390
  • Abstract:
A valve-controlled pneumatic actuator is used to actuate a movable cleaning head to remove soot, ash or other sediment from tubes, headers and other internal parts of a heat exchanger of the type used in coal gasification plants. A rotary sootblower tube is coupled to a stationary inlet tube in a chamber of the heat exchanger vessel where a hot, highly pressurized and dirty gas circulates. Both the actuator and the stationary inlet tube are fixed to the vessel so that seals for moving parts are avoided. In one embodiment, the blowing tube extends in the inlet tube to a free end, and in another embodiment the opposite end is mounted to rotate around a stub tube. The blowing medium is provided in a jet or blast through nozzles in the blowing tube to loosen soot in the internal parts of the heat exchanger. The blowing medium is also used to power the actuator. In another embodiment a rapper head is carried by an actuator shaft, and an actuator piston is moved through a rapid stroke to strike a lower header and loosen accumulated deposits with the resulting vibrations.
