    5/768588
  • Inventors:
Peter J. Linko - Cincinnati OH
Michael A. Radomski - Cincinnati OH
William E. Schoenborn - Cincinnati OH
  • Assignee:
General Electric Company - Cincinnati OH
  • International Classification:
    F01B 2500
  • US Classification:
    415144
  • Abstract:
A protection system for use with a bleed manifold of a gas turbine engine is provided and is comprised of barrier means disposed within the manifold for preventing at least a portion of incendiary particles entrained in a fluid flowing instream through the manifold from impinging upon a wall associated with said manifold. Shielding means are also provided for shielding engine casing bleed ports from impingement by the particles.
  • Method For Making Lightweight Composite Article

    view source
  • US Patent:
    41988396, Apr 22, 1980
  • Filed:
    Apr 19, 1978
  • Appl. No.:
    5/897619
  • Inventors:
Peter J. Linko - Cincinnati OH
William R. Butts - Milford OH
Susan L. Awalt - Cincinnati OH
Charles E. Glynn - Hamilton OH
  • Assignee:
General Electric Company - Cincinnati OH
  • International Classification:
    B21B 100
  • US Classification:
    72199
  • Abstract:
An improved lightweight composite article comprises a base portion and a spaced apart cap portion between which is secured a body portion comprising a plurality of thin metallic ribbons secured between the base portion and cap portion. The ribbons are disposed in substantially unbonded, aligned relationship at an upper wall portion which is integral with the cap portion formed from top edge extensions of the ribbons. The cap portion is disposed angularly to the body portion to provide one boundary of interstices defined within the member. Such a lightweight, porous-type member can be provided with a relatively smooth, substantially continuous surface through the rubbing or smearing of portions of the member surface with a smooth, relatively hard moving rubbing surface such as the peripheral smooth rim surface of a rotating wheel.

  • US Patent:
    41379497, Feb 6, 1979
  • Filed:
    May 11, 1977
  • Appl. No.:
    5/795857
  • Inventors:
Peter J. Linko - Cincinnati OH
Stanley C. Harrier - Terrace Park OH
  • Assignee:
General Electric Company - Cincinnati OH
  • International Classification:
    F16L 1112
    F16L 914
    B32B 108
  • US Classification:
    138125
  • Abstract:
A conduit such as a metal or flexible material fuel or oil tube is provided with a barrier to metallic fires through the use of the combination of carbon or graphite impregnated with a polymer resin to provide insulative as well as ablative characteristics.
  • Compressor Protection Means

    view source
  • US Patent:
    41556801, May 22, 1979
  • Filed:
    Feb 14, 1977
  • Appl. No.:
    5/768589
  • Inventors:
Peter J. Linko - Cincinnati OH
Michael A. Radomski - Cincinnati OH
William E. Schoenborn - Cincinnati OH
  • Assignee:
General Electric Company - Cincinnati OH
  • International Classification:
    F01B 2500
  • US Classification:
    415144
  • Abstract:
In a gas turbine engine including a compressor having a casing with a passage adapted to pass bleed air to a circumferentially extending bleed manifold surrounding the casing, the passage including a surface exposed to incendiary particles periodically entrained in the bleed air, an improvement is provided comprising means for preventing impingement of the particles upon the exposed surface. In one form the means is disposed between the exposed surface and the bleed air and is comprised of a material which, when reacted with the particles, produces a compound which is essentially nonpyrophoric in the environment of the passage.
  • Single Crystal, Environmentally-Resistant Gas Turbine Shroud

    view source
  • US Patent:
    52405184, Aug 31, 1993
  • Filed:
    Sep 5, 1990
  • Appl. No.:
    7/577668
  • Inventors:
David J. Wortman - Hamilton OH
Brian H. Pilsner - Cincinnati OH
Peter J. Linko - Cincinnati OH
  • Assignee:
General Electric Company - Cincinnati OH
  • International Classification:
    C22C 1905
  • US Classification:
    148404
  • Abstract:
A single crystal shroud, preferably used around the high pressure turbine section of a gas turbine engine, has a composition, in weight percent, of from about 5 to about 10 percent chromium, from about 5 to about 10 percent cobalt, from 0 to about 2 percent molybdenum, from about 3 to about 10 percent tungsten, from about 3 to about 8 percent tantalum, from 0 to about 2 percent titanium, from about 5 to about 7 percent aluminum, from 0 to about 6 percent rhenium, from 0 to about 0. 50 percent hafnium, from 0 to about 0. 07 percent carbon, from 0 to about 0. 015 percent boron, and from 0 to about 0. 075 percent yttrium, balance nickel. The environmentally- resistant shroud preferably is used in the as-cast condition without any oxidation and corrosion resistant flowpath coating.
  • Metallic Article With Integral End Band Under Compression

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20040109767, Jun 10, 2004
  • Filed:
    May 22, 2003
  • Appl. No.:
    10/444105
  • Inventors:
David Crall - Loveland OH, US
Peter Linko - Cincinnati OH, US
  • International Classification:
    B63H001/26
  • US Classification:
    416/24100R
  • Abstract:
An article made of a metallic material and comprising a body and a body end portion integral with the body, includes a band of the metallic material at the end portion substantially through the entire end portion, the band being under a compressive stress greater than the body. An example of the article is a turbine engine blading member in which the body is the airfoil of the member and the band is disposed at the radially outer tip portion of the airfoil. One method for providing the band includes performing roller deformation on the end portion until a desired amount of compressive stress is developed in the band substantially through the entire end portion.
