Abstract:
A rubber composition comprising the following compound:R1—NH-phenyl-NH—Rwhere the amino moieties occupy the 1 and 4 positions of the phenyl ring, and R1 and R2 are selected from the group consisting of H, C1 to C3 straight chain or branched alkyl groups, and wherein R1 and R2 may be the same or different; and where the t, isothermal at 125 C. is within thirty percent of the t, after 28 days aging at forty degrees Celsius (40 C. ), as the unaged green rubber composition. In another embodiment, R1 and R2 are selected from C4 to C5 straight chain or branched alkyl groups. In another embodiment of the invention, R1 and R2 are selected from C6 to C15 straight chain or branched alkyl groups. In another embodiment of the invention, the rubber compound is greater than 5 parts by weight per hundred parts of the rubber composition.

Abstract:
An apparatus and method of roughening the sole side surface of a tread band is provided wherein the sole side surface of a tread band is roughened with at least one abrasive roller. The bottom of at least one groove in a tread side of the tread band is supported while the abrasive roller is roughening the sole side surface opposite the supported groove.

Abstract:
The present invention is a rubber composition comprising microencapsulated sulfur and free sulfur. The composition is particularly useful as a cushion gum in retreading procedures. In one embodiment of the invention, the composition further comprises one or more ultra-accelerator curing agents for rubber. In another embodiment of the invention, the rubber composition has a twithin twenty percent, more preferably within ten percent, and more preferably within five percent of the unaged green rubber composition, after 28 days aging at forty degrees Celsius. In another embodiment of the invention, the rubber composition has a twithin twenty percent, more preferably within ten percent, and more preferably within five percent of the unaged green rubber composition, after 28 days aging at forty degrees Celsius. In another embodiment of the invention, approximately between forty and fifteen percent, more preferably between thirty and twenty percent, and more preferably approximately twenty-five percent by weight of the sulfur in the composition is encapsulated. Another embodiment of the invention is a tire comprising the rubber composition of the invention. Another embodiment of the invention is a recapped or repaired tire comprising the rubber composition of the invention. A further embodiment of the invention is a method of retreading a tire comprising application of the rubber composition of the invention between the tire tread and the carcass of a tire. A further embodiment of the invention comprises a method of repairing a tire comprising application of the rubber composition of the invention to a defect in the tire. A further embodiment comprises repair of rubber articles using the composition.
A cushion gum of having a diene rubber and between 5 and 60 phr of a plasticizing hydrocarbon resin having a glass transition temperature greater than about 20 C., 60 C. or even greater than 70 C. and a number average molecular weight less than 2000. The cushion gum may comprise between 10 and 30 phr of the resin in particular embodiments. The plasticizing resin may be a terpene resin comprising units resulting from the polymerization of limonene, alpha pinene, beta pinene or combinations thereof; homopolymers or copolymers of cyclopentadiene (CPD) or dicyclopentadiene (DCPD), homopolymers or copolymers of terpene, homopolymers or copolymers of a Ccut and mixtures thereof; and/or copolymers of (D)CPD/vinyl-aromatic, of (D)CPD/terpene, of (D)CPD/Ccut, of terpene/vinyl-aromatic, of Ccut/vinyl-aromatic and of combinations thereof.
A tread band () and tire () having a tread band () bonded thereto, particular embodiments including a tread band () having an antidegradant reservoir () forming a part of the tread band () and having a rubber composition mixed with an antidegradant at a higher antidegradant concentration than an adjacent rubber composition () with the antidegradant reservoir () being in diffusive communication with the base surface () of a tread shoulder (). The tread band () may further include a barrier layer () separating at least a portion of the antidegradant reservoir () from the adjacent rubber composition () Particular embodiments include a tread band () having an antidegradant reservoir () forming a part of the tread band (), the antidegradant reservoir () comprising a rubber composition mixed with an antidegradant and a barrier layer () bordering at least a portion of the antidegradant reservoir, wherein the barrier layer () inhibits diffusion of the antidegradant from the antidegradant reservoir () through the barrier layer ().
