Huge Prescriber of Risky Antipsychotic Drug to Plead Guilty to Taking Kickbacks
The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois filed a single felony charge against Dr. Michael Reinstein this week for taking $2,000 in November 2009 from drugmaker Teva in return for Reinsteins referrals of patients for clozapine prescriptions.
Tuesday's settlement resolves charges that two Teva units, Teva Pharmaceuticals USA Inc., based in North Wales, Montgomery County, and IVAX L.L.C., violated the federal False Claims Act by making payments to the psychiatrist, Michael Reinstein, for nine years starting in August 2003.
