Process For Coextruding A Tacky Amorphous Propylene Copolymer Composition With A Low Viscosity Polyolefin And Article Prepared Thereby
Disclosed is a process for producing non-blocking slats of normally tacky amorphous propylene copolymers. The process entails coextruding the normally tacky amorphous propylene copolymer with a low viscosity polyolefin such as a polyethylene wax forming a core of amorphous propylene copolymer covered with a sheath of polyethylene wax. The coextruded article is cooled, cut (while exposing less than 40 percent of the core) and then coated with a non-tacky powder; thereby, forming non-blocking slats. Disclosed is also a novel amorphous propylene copolymer composition containing no more than 90 weight percent propylene and up to 70 weight percent of an alpha olefin comonomer having a needle penetration greater than 70 to less than 100 dmm at 23 C. and a Brookfield Thermosel Viscosity below 1000 cP at 190 C.

Abstract:
This invention relates to elastomeric compositions comprising at least one polymeric elastomer, at least one propylene polymer, and at least one curing agent. The elastomer compositions can optionally contain other rubbers, such as natural rubber and a variety of other ingredients. The compositions containing propylene polymers and copolymers can have better processability and lower compound viscosities and can show an improvement in at least one of the following properties: air permeability, tensile strength, elongation, tear strength, adhesion, dynamic performance, flex fatigue resistance, and cure characteristics. These elastomer compositions are believed to be useful for applications where elastomeric polymer is currently used, such as, tire inner liners for tubeless tires, tire inner tubes, and ball bladders to name a few.
The present invention relates to a monolayer film formed from a composition comprising from about 90 weight percent to about 99 weight percent based on the total weight of the composition of a component selected from a homopolymer of ethylene; an ethylene alpha olefin copolymer; an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer; and mixtures thereof; wherein the component has a density no greater than 0. 94 g/cc; and from about 1 weight percent to about 10 weight percent based on the total weight of the composition of a copolymer of propylene with a monomer copolymerizable therewith, having a viscosity of between about 1 and about 2000 cP at 190 degrees C. , and a needle penetration of about 50 dmm to about 150 dmm at 23 degrees C. , wherein the monomer comprises from about 10 weight percent to about 40 weight percent of the total weight of the propylene copolymer. The monolayer films of the present invention are particularly well suited for use as a stretch film.
Batch Inclusion Package For Amorphous Polyolefins And Process For Its Preparation
A process for packaging normally tacky amorphous polyolefins, and other materials having similar melt viscosities, is provided. The process entails flowing a heated material into a molded polyolefin container having a minimum wall thickness of about 0. 1 mm to less than 0. 24 mm at a temperature above the melting point of the container, followed by slowly cooling the filled container. The process is conducted at ambient conditions without the use of cooling fluids.
Disclosed is also a novel amorphous propylene copolymer composition containing no more than 90 weight percent propylene and up to 70 weight percent of an alpha olefin comonomer having a needle penetration greater than 70 to less than 100 dmm at 23. degree. C. and a Brookfield Thermosel Viscosity below 1000 cP at 190. degree. C.
