A method of providing security to operation of a self-service checkout terminal having a video camera and a printing device associated therewith includes the step of capturing a first video image of a customer with the video camera during operation of the self-service checkout terminal by the customer and generating an electronic video file in response thereto. The method also includes the step of determining if the customer has tendered payment for an item for purchase and generating a payment-tendered control signal in response thereto. The method further includes the step of extracting a second video image from the electronic video file, the second video image being representative of the first video image. The method also includes the step of printing a transaction receipt with the printing device in response to generation of the payment-tendered control signal. The printing step includes the step of printing the second video image on a portion of the transaction receipt with the printing device.
Apparatus And Method For Operating A Checkout System Having A Number Of Interface Terminals Associated Therewith
A method of operating a checkout terminal having a display monitor includes the step of operating the checkout terminal so as to perform an assisted checkout transaction while the display monitor is positioned in an assisted monitor position. The method also includes the step of pivoting the display monitor such that the display monitor is positioned in a self-service monitor position. Moreover, the method includes the step of operating the checkout terminal so as to perform a self-service checkout transaction while the display monitor is positioned in the self-service monitor position. A checkout terminal is also disclosed.
Method Of Operating Checkout System Having Modular Construction
A checkout terminal includes a first bagging station and a second bagging station which is spaced apart from the first bagging station. The terminal also includes an item transport mechanism. The item transport mechanism is positionable between a first transport position and a second transport position. The item transport mechanism is configured to transport a first item for purchase of the number of items for purchase to the first bagging station when the item transport mechanism is positioned in the first transport position. The item transport mechanism is further configured to allow a second item for purchase of the number of items for purchase to be advanced to the second bagging station when the item transport mechanism is positioned in the second transport position. A method of operating a checkout terminal is also disclosed.

Abstract:
A method of operating a retail terminal having a signal transmitter associated therewith includes the step of detecting an intervention-needed activity and generating an intervention-needed control signal in response thereto. The method also includes the step of operating the signal transmitter so as to transmit a personnel-request signal in response to generation of the intervention-needed control signal. The method further includes the step of receiving the personnel-request signal with a signal receiver associated with an audible message generating device. Moreover, the method includes the step of generating an audible message that is communicated to retail personnel with the audible message generating device in response to receipt of the personnel-request signal. A retail terminal is also disclosed.

Abstract:
A method of preventing LCD damage in an information handling system is disclosed. The method includes mounting an LCD in a screen portion of an information handling system. The LCD has a top layer with a particular hardness. Another step in the method is rotatably mounting a base portion of the information handling system to the screen portion such that the portions can assume a proximate position and a separated position. A material is affixed to the base portion such that at least a portion of the material is between the base portion and the LCD in the proximate position. The material has a hardness no greater than the hardness of the top layer of the LCD.

Abstract:
A power consumption manager reduces inadvertent information handling system shutdowns by monitoring current discharge from a battery and commanding selected components of the information handling system to operate in a reduced power mode if current discharge exceeds a warning threshold. The power consumption manager recovers the selected components from the reduced power mode if the current discharge from the battery remains less than a recovery threshold. Monitoring of current discharge reduces inadvertent shutdowns from temporary surges in power demand from the battery and allows implementation of a reduced power configuration for the information handling system as total power discharge capacity of the battery drops with total charge available due to use of the battery over time.

Abstract:
Systems and methods for providing a SIM module for an information handling system, such as desktop computer, notebook computer or other type of portable information handling system, etc. An information handling system may be assembled so that a SIM module need only be installed into the information handling system when SIM functionality is required to support a GSM type WWAN card, and not installed when such WWAN capability is not needed.

Abstract:
Visual information is selectively input or output from an information handling system video connector to support presentation of external visual information input to the connector at a display of the information handling system or presentation of internal visual information output from the connector at an external display. A multiplexer selectively interfaces the connector with a graphics controller to output analog visual information or with a video decoder to receive analog visual information for conversion to a digital format and communication to the graphics controller. In one embodiment, input of an external signal to the connector automatically configures the information handling system to receive and display the external visual information.
