Abstract:

A method for converting a vertically structured CAD/CAM model to a horizontally structured CAD/CAM model, comprising: identifying and establishing a base feature; establishing a parent coordinate system; identifying a parent modeling element; identifying each dependency for each feature from the parent modeling element; restructuring each dependency for each feature for placement, such that each feature exhibits a direct associative relationship with a reference feature; and restructuring each dependency for each feature for positioning, such that each feature exhibits a direct associative relationship with another reference feature.

Abstract:

A system, method, and article of manufacture for generating a CAD model indicating an amount of material added or removed from a part to form a feature in the part are provided. The method includes generating a first CAD model of the part. The method further includes generating a second CAD model of the part having at least one additional feature not present in the first CAD model. The method further includes generating a third CAD model based on the first and second CAD models indicating the amount of material either added or removed from the first CAD model to form the at least one additional feature in the second CAD model.

Abstract:

An electric power assist apparatus for motor vehicle power steering including an electric motor and a speed reducer. The speed reducer includes a worm and a molded plastic worm gear on an output shaft of the speed reducer. The polymer from which the worm gear and the integral worm gear teeth thereon is molded has substantial structural rigidity after becoming cured. A plastic tooth ring is insert molded on the worm gear from a polymer having substantially greater resilience after becoming cured. The plastic tooth ring includes a plurality of resiliently flexible gear teeth having flanks which circumferentially overlap the flanks of the worm gear teeth. When the electric motor is off, the gear teeth on the worm mesh with the resiliently flexible gear teeth on the tooth ring with zero clearance to suppress noise attributable to rattling between the worm and resilient flexure of the flexible gear teeth on the tooth ring until the worm teeth engage the structurally more rigid worm gear teeth.

Abstract:

A steering rack includes an elongate member, a plurality of steering rack teeth, and a ramp function. The elongate member has a first portion disposed opposite a second portion. The plurality of steering rack teeth are cut and formed into the first portion. Each tooth of the plurality of steering rack teeth have a substantially constant height across a length of the elongate member. The ramp function is formed into the second portion of the elongate member.
