  • Intraoral Dental Abrading Instrument

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6457974, Oct 1, 2002
  • Filed:
    Nov 18, 1999
  • Appl. No.:
    09/442975
  • Inventors:
Michael C. Sharp - Centerport NY
    Kevin Klocek - Boise ID
Stuart A. Mitchell - Harwinton CT
  • Assignee:
    Parkell, Inc. - Farmingdale NY
  • International Classification:
    A61C 302
  • US Classification:
    433 88
  • Abstract:
A hand-held dental instrument for intraoral abrading of teeth includes a light-weight body made from a high temperature material and having internal bores or passageways for permitting fluid flow through the body. A rotatable nozzle assembly having internal fluid conduits therein is coupled to a distal end of the body such that a chamber is formed between the nozzle and the body. The chamber maintains fluid communication between an internal bore which is radially offset from a central axis bore of the body and an internal conduit of the nozzle assembly such that the nozzle can be rotated a full 360 degrees with respect to the body. The nozzle assembly includes a primary discharge port for directing flow of the air/abrasive material mixture and a secondary discharge port for directing a stream of liquid to a surface to be abraded. The primary discharge port of the nozzle head is preferably larger in diameter than the secondary discharge port and is disposed at an angle with respect to the secondary discharge port to meet at a point forward of the nozzle head. The handpiece is also provided with its own self-contained abrasive material supply which may be connected to the body or may be contained within the body.
  • System And Method For Sealing Openings In Response To Smoke, Noxious Fumes, Or Contaminated Air Using A Roll-Down Barrier

  • US Patent:
    7000668, Feb 21, 2006
  • Filed:
    Jun 13, 2002
  • Appl. No.:
    10/172685
  • Inventors:
John J. Sears - Meridian ID, US
Tasche L. Strieb - Boise ID, US
Eric Holstine - Boise ID, US
Kevin Klocek - New York NY, US
Thomas A. Allen - Boise ID, US
  • Assignee:
Smoke Guard Corporation - Boise ID
  • International Classification:
    E05F 15/20
  • US Classification:
    160 7, 160 2, 160 9
  • Abstract:
A system and method for rapidly and reliably sealing off a selected opening from the passage of smoke, noxious fumes, or contaminated air includes a powered clutch and viscous governor that provides a fail-safe mode of operation. A curtain is positioned in a housing adjacent to an upper limit of an opening such as a hoist access-way. The curtain is wrapped around a spindle that is connected to a spool via two cords. The curtain is held in the housing in a stored configuration by a powered clutch so that upon removal of power, either via a controller or by power loss, the clutch releases the spool allowing the cord to unwind lowering and thus deploying the curtain. A capacitor can be included to prevent inadvertent deployments due to momentary power loss. The speed at which the spool rotates, and correspondingly the curtain deploys, is limited by a viscous governor coupled to the spool. The curtain includes flexible magnets that attach to ferrous side rails forming a nearly air tight seal preventing the passage of smoke, noxious fumes or contaminated air through the opening.

  • Filed:
    Mar 3, 2005
  • Appl. No.:
    11/071838
  • Inventors:
John Karpowicz - Chester Springs PA, US
Kevin P Klocek - Ardmore PA, US
  • Assignee:
Boehringer Technologies, L.P. - Norristown PA
  • International Classification:

    A61M 37/00
  • US Classification:
    604 35, 604 34, 604132, 604133
  • Abstract:
A system and method to administer a liquid agent into a body cavity of a patient is provided. One exemplary system comprises a lumen disposed into an airway of the patient and a valve assembly coupled to the lumen. The valve assembly comprises a body portion, a first port and a second port. A pump assembly for receiving the liquid agent is coupled to the valve assembly in a fluid tight relationship. The pump assembly provides the liquid to the lumen through the first port of the valve assembly. The liquid along with a portion of secretions generated by the patient are extracted through the lumen and flow out of said valve assembly through the second port for disposal responsive to a natural body function and/or a vacuum from a vacuum source. One exemplary method comprises the steps of disposing a lumen into the body cavity of the patient, the lumen comprising a fluid port; introducing the liquid agent into the body cavity through the fluid port; and extracting at least the liquid from the body cavity through the fluid port responsive to a natural body function and/or a vacuum from the vacuum source.
