Abstract:

A method for monitoring a workspace comprising deploying a fiber optic distributed temperature sensor cable in the workspace, wherein the sensor is capable of detecting a temperature differential of ±10° F. from baseline. A method for monitoring a workspace comprising deploying a fiber optic distributed temperature sensor cable in the workspace, wherein the sensor is readily accessible for contact by a worker trapped in the workspace to signal a location of the worker. A method for monitoring a workspace comprising deploying a fiber optic distributed temperature sensor cable in the workspace and instructing workers to locate the cable and position themselves in close proximity or direct contact with the cable in order to indicate their position within the workspace.

Abstract:

A system and method of measuring pressure in highly deviated or horizontal wellbores. In a described example, a pressure measurement system includes an apparatus which has a tube wrapped helically about a tubular mandrel. The tube is connected to a line extending to a remote location. A predetermined fluid is displaced through the line and the tube, so that fluid pressure in a well at the apparatus may be measured at the remote location.

Abstract:

A system is provided for measuring both the temperature and pressure of fluid in a borehole utilizing a single small diameter tube extending from the surface to the desired downhole test location in a borehole. Downhole fluid pressure is transmitted through the small diameter tube, while a sheathed thermocouple line extending along the flow path of the tube is used for transmitting downhold fluid temperature information to the surface. A continuous surface read-out of both pressure and temperature is thus possible, and the temperature read-out may be used to both monitor downhole fluid temperature and increase the accuracy of the fluid pressure measurement system.
