A method of manufacturing a nanocomposite includes exposing a plurality of substantially dry nanoparticles to a substantially dry and solid matrix material to form a combination of the nanoparticles and the matrix material. The method also includes agitating the combination of the nanoparticles and the matrix material to thereby disperse the nanoparticles on the matrix material. The matrix material remains in a solid phase during agitating. Furthermore, the method includes processing the combination to form the nanocomposite having the nanoparticles dispersed in the matrix material.
