Abstract:An essentially dry gas generation retarded aluminum powder for oil field cements is provided. The retarded aluminum powder is formed by dissolving an effective amount of an aluminum reaction rate retarder in an organic solvent, the retarder being selected from fatty acid esters of sorbitan, glycerol and pentaerythritol. Aluminum powder is mixed with the retarder-solvent solution whereby the aluminum powder is wetted with the solution followed by drying the aluminum powder by vacuum evaporating and removing the organic solvent therefrom. Methods of forming gas generation retarded oil field cements and using such cements are also provided.

Abstract:Liquid fluid loss control additives for oil field cements are provided which have long storage lives without excessive settling and which can be mixed with cement slurries without the formation of gel balls or fish eyes. The liquid additives consist essentially of a liquid hydrocarbon, a hydrophilic water soluble polymer, an organophilic clay suspending agent, an organic sulfonate dispersant, a polyamide amine surfactant for oil wetting the polymer and a surfactant for stripping liquid hydrocarbon from the polymer when contacted with water.

Abstract:A method for maintaining in a computer memory laboratory test records for a plurality of projects, particularly adapted to projects for cementing oil or gas wells, are disclosed. Records of data identifying the plurality of projects and records of test data for the plurality of projects are entered within the computer memory. Data from selected records are compiled in a predetermined report format. More particularly disclosed is a method of designing a cement job for an oil or gas well. This includes receiving into a computer, programmed with records of data in predetermined categories for a plurality of previous cement jobs, a field of search for a selected predetermined category of data pertinent to a cement job being designed. Automatic searching within the computer finds records which contain data within the field of search. These are displayed.
