  • US Patent:
    55241360, Jun 4, 1996
  • Filed:
    Apr 20, 1992
  • Appl. No.:
    7/871252
  • Inventors:
    Amotz Bar-Noy - Bronx NY
    Ilan Kessler - Bronx NY
  • Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
  • International Classification:
    H04M 1100
    H04Q 700
    H04B 100
  • US Classification:
    379 59
  • Abstract:
A method and apparatus for efficiently tracking the location of a mobile station in a cellular network, especially in cellular networks having nonuniform traffic distribution. A mobile station reports to a base station only upon entering selected reporting cells. When communication with a mobile station is desired, the station is searched for in the vicinity of the last reporting cell in which the station appeared. The vicinity of a reporting cell is defined as the set of all intersecting cells reachable from the reporting cell without passing through another reporting cell.

  • US Patent:
    56131984, Mar 18, 1997
  • Filed:
    Mar 13, 1995
  • Appl. No.:
    8/402767
  • Inventors:
    Hamid Ahmadi - Somers NY
    Amotz Bar-Noy - Bronx NY
    Ilan Kessler - Bronx NY
Arvind Krishna - Briarcliff Manor NY
  • Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
  • International Classification:
    H04Q 736
  • US Classification:
    455 331
  • Abstract:
A method of dynamically allocating bandwidth of channels to cells in a communications cellular network according to user demand. Groups of cells are formed so as to minimize interference within each group, and a particular channel is assigned to each of the groups. The bandwidth of each channel then is dynamically allocated by time division to each of the cells in the assigned group according to user demand in each of the cells thereof.
  • Dynamic Tracking Of Mobile Stations In Wireless Networks

  • US Patent:
    53902343, Feb 14, 1995
  • Filed:
    Apr 20, 1992
  • Appl. No.:
    7/871253
  • Inventors:
    Amotz Bar-Noy - Bronx NY

  • International Classification:
    H04M 1100
    H04Q 700
  • US Classification:
    379 59
  • Abstract:
A method of tracking mobile stations in a cellular network. A mobile station will report to a base station only when the mobile station is turned on and only after having made a minimum number of intercellular movements. When communications with a mobile station is desired, the mobile station is searched for only in the neighborhood of the most recent current cell, which is the last cell from which the mobile station reported to the base station.
  • Radio Communications System With Fault Tolerant Frequency Hopping Synchronization

  • US Patent:
    54426596, Aug 15, 1995
  • Filed:
    Oct 22, 1993
  • Appl. No.:
    8/142555
  • Inventors:
    Frederick J. Bauchot - Saint-Jeannet, FR
    Chia-Chi Huang - Hsinchu, TW
    Ilan Kessler - Bronx NY
Kadathur S. Natarajan - Millwood NY
  • Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
  • International Classification:
    H04B 1713
  • US Classification:
    375202
  • Abstract:
A method for use in multicellular communication network system of the type having base stations and a plurality of remote stations. The method achieves reliable and fault tolerant synchronization between the stations in a call when a frequency hopping technique is used. The method includes steps for acquiring the frequency hop sequence by remote station and tracking the frequency hop sequence after acquisition in order to stay in synchronism. The method also provides for recovering from loss of synchronism and for staying in synchronism.
