"Outstanding Young Alumni Award is awarded to Heather Schoegler, B.A., Communication (2002). Heather began attending IPFW in 1998 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in media and public communication in 2002. After graduating, she was able to use her degree working for several local businesses, including CB Richard Ellis/Strugis and One Lucky Guitar, before taking her current position as the director of communications for the Parkview Foundation. Believing that serving where you live is important to your personal growth as well as the community’s, Heather currently volunteers with Early Childhood Alliance, McMillen Health Center, and the Jason Baker Pro Football Mini Camp. She also serves on the boards for Junior Achievement and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Indiana.
When asked why she continues to stay involved with IPFW, Heather said, “Over the past few years, I’ve been able to spend time with several IPFW students from the communication department (and speak to some classes). A number of my interns have been IPFW students. In each case, I’ve been impressed with the quality of students IPFW is graduating. Many are choosing to stay in northeast Indiana for their careers and to me, that’s great news for both the students and the region… As I drive past campus, I’m always impressed with the growth that has happened in the few years since I graduated. I’m proud to tell my children that ‘that’s where I went to school’ and am thankful to have an excellent local college for them to consider in the future”."
