Abstract:
A disposable comb for a vertical gel cassette of a vertical electrophoresis device is disclosed. The comb is formed from a single thin sheet of a plastic, preferrably biaxial polystyrene, which has at least a slight degree of resilience. A comb is rectangular in shape, and has a plurality of equally spaced parallel ridges or ribs which extend from one side of the sheet to the other (from top to bottom as the comb is inserted into a vertical gel cassette). The comb has a plurality of relatively wide coplanar flat portions alternating with relatively narrow parallel ridges, which resemble the teeth of a comb. The tops of the ridges are slightly convex. The disposable comb is placed into a vertical gel cassette comprising a pair of closely spaced walls, so that the coplanar flat portions of a comb engaged inside surface of one wall while the ridges engage in the inside of the surface of relatively wide spaced paralled sample wells which are adpated to receive a mixture of macromolecules which are to be separated, alternating with realtively narrow spacer channels.

Abstract:
This invention is directed to a cassette for gel electrophoresis which may be easily disassembled without disrupting or damaging the gel and which prevents the gel from sliding out of the cassette. This invention is further directed to a cassette provided with a comb carrier which allows for the easy insertion of a comb into the cassette after the gel has been poured without damaging the gel and which protects the comb from having unwanted material enter into the comb and into the gel.

Abstract:
Vertical gel electrophoresis devices comprising a bottom tank having an electrode associated therewith, a top tank insertable into said bottom tank, the top edge of the top tank extending no higher than the top edges of the bottom tank, and a cover assembly including a lid adapted to be placed on top of said bottom tank and a second electrode. As a safety feature, the second electrode is fixedly associated with the cover assembly so that it is removed when the cover assembly is removed. The device also includes an interlock arrangement so that the cover assembly cannot be inserted in place or removed by a simple vertical motion unaccompanied by a horizontal motion.
Electrophoresis Separation Gel And A Method For Preparing An Electrophoresis Separation Gel
A gel for use in an electrophoresis separation includes a plurality of gradients within the gel. Each gradient includes a polyacrylamide matrix and a buffer, wherein the polyacrylamide of one gradient has a different and preselected chain length as compared to at least one other gradient. The polyacrylamide matrix is a bi-functionally cross-linked acrylamide; and the buffer has a buffering capacity pH of from about 7. 5 to about 9. 5. A method according to the invention includes polymerizing the polyacrylamide matrix while monitoring polymer chain length and forming an electrophoresis gel therewith.

Abstract:
This invention supplies lures whose polymer being applied to fish attractants and release said attractant into water at an essentially a controlled rate usually for a period sufficient for the attractant fish to arrive at the lure. These polymers may be any that are commercially available or known that has the ability to selectively absorb the lure and then release it controlably into water. The preferred polymers are copolymers of acrylic water swellable polyesters, water swellable polyesthers, water swellable poly urethanes, with the degree of water swellability being controlled by the degree of cross-linking.
