An arrow gun and method for propelling arrows or harpoons in which the gun includes a compressed gas source such as compressed air or CO. sub. 2, a handle and trigger arrangement, and a high pressure air passageway system for linking the barrel to the gas source to propel or discharge the arrow. The arrow or harpoon is hollow and is slid over the barrel of the gun so that the barrel guides the arrow upon firing. The air passageway system is responsive to the actuation of the trigger such that the gun when loaded is not subject to pressure build-up and thus avoids accidental discharge hazards. Arrows with or without fletching may be used and are held in place when loaded without latching or locking. Arrows without fletching are held in the loaded position by a gripping means arranged in the vicinity of the point where the barrel connects to the gun, while arrows with fletching are engaged in a shroud cover which surrounds the barrel at the gun handle end.
A compressed gas gun having a trigger mechanism including a body member having a passage through which a valve stem passes. A trigger arm is pivotably secured to the body member and includes a finger grip and a cam surface for bearing against a wall of the internal chamber of the gun to move the body member rearwardly upon actuation of the trigger arm. Rearward movement of the body member moves the valve stem rearward to overcome a spring force to release gas through the valve stem into the barrel of the gun to propel a projectile, such as a paint ball, arrow or harpoon.
A singular modular barrel assembly allows a projectile weapon to fire both tubular arrow type projectiles and internal bullet type projectiles. The singular modular barrel assembly includes components that can be attached or detached from the singular modular barrel assembly, thereby, altering the barrel configuration in order to allow the projectile weapon to fire either tubular arrow type projectiles or internal bullet type projectiles. The singular modular barrel assembly includes an outer tube, an inner tube, and a barrel-attachment body. The outer tube is a barrel shroud that protects and aligns the inner tube. The inner tube allows a tubular arrow type projectile to be loaded or allows passage for an internal bullet type projectile. The barrel-attachment body allows the singular modular barrel assembly to be attached onto the existing barrel of a projectile weapon. The singular modular barrel assembly can be used with either pyrotechnic or pneumatic projectile weapons.
