Abstract:
Compositions of an alkali metal formononetinate, particularly potassium and sodium, for stimulating the growth of mycorrhizal fungi which colonize the plant and in turn stimulate growth of the plant. The results are improved over formononetin. ##STR1##.

Abstract:
A method and compositions for stimulating the growth of vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi alone or in the presence of a plant material using isoflavonoid compounds is described. The isoflavonoids are preferably of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R. sub. 1, R. sub. 2 and R. sub. 3 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, hydroxyl and alkoxy, particularly methoxy.
