Abstract:
The present invention provides a system and method for controlling a retractable sootblower having a frame, a movable carriage, a limit switch mounted on the movable carriage, a first switch control device, and a second switch control device. The frame supports the movable carriage, allowing the movable carriage to move between an extended and retracted position. The limit switch is mounted on the carriage and configured to sense both the first switch control device and the second switch control device. The first switch control device is positioned such that the limit switch will sense the first switch control device when the carriage is in the extended position. The second switch control device is positioned such that the limit switch will sense the second switch control device when the carriage is in the retracted position. The sootblower also includes a motor for driving the movable carriage between the extended and retracted positions, and a controller electrically coupled to the limit switch and configured to reverse the motor travel in response to the limit switch sensing the first switch control device.

Abstract:
A PLC based parameter sensing sootblower having a retractable lance tube that is extended and retracted by a drive motor. A PLC sensing circuit is used to sense when the lance tube is fully extended and/or fully retracted. The PLC sensing circuit can be configured to sense drive motor current, power, torque or other drive motor characteristics to determine when the lance tube has come to a hard stop upon extension. The PLC sensing circuit then calculates an approximate time window in which the lance should be fully retracted. The parameter sensor is configured to sense the drive motor current, power, torque or other characteristic only during the time window to determine when the lance tube is fully retracted while ignoring any motor load variations outside of the designated time window.

Abstract:
A flexible supporting sheet formed of insulating material has "printed circuit"-type adherent conductors thereon which are flexible with the sheet and which are so disposed that contact parts which are also carried by the sheet, and which are arranged to be connectable to the individual components of a row of circuit components, are located at the ends of relatively long, straight, parallel hinging portions of the conductors, all of which hinging portions are arranged on the same side of the respective components to which they are to be connected. The sheet can be cut on three sides of each component, and its connected hinging portions of the conductors, to enable bending back an overlying tongue-like section of the sheet for access to the component without severing any of the conductors.

Abstract:
A system for automatically controlling a drain valve connected to a sootblower steam piping system utilizes two temperature measurements, one near the steam source and the other near the drain valve. Comparison of the difference in steam temperature between these two locations with an adjustable temperature setpoint allows the drain valve to be opened to drain condensate and maintain minimum allowable superheat over a wide range of conditions. The system allows the temperature sensing to "float" with steam source conditions, since it is continuously adjusted to compensate for steam source temperature and ambient temperature changes.
