Abstract:

A pill splitter for use with pills of complex shapes has a bed which substantially conforms to one-half of the pill. The bed is affixed within the cylindrical lower body of the splitter, into which a blade is affixed. A clearance slot allows the blade to be exposed within the bed at a height such that the pill, when placed in the bed, just touches the blade. A plunger containing guides is inserted in the cylindrical upper body, so that the plunger lies on the upper surface of the pill, along a line directly above the blade. A sharp blow to the cap of the plunger drives the pill onto the blade below, splitting the pill.

Abstract:

A dyslexia detection system displays a test word, either alone, or within a sentence. The test subject is asked to pronounce the test word, and to write it on a handwriting input device, such as a tablet. The system analyzes the spoken words, comparing them to sound records in a library of properly pronounced phonemes which make up the test word. The system also analyzes the characters written by the subject, and detects whether any of the characters correspond to a member of a distorted character set containing distortions commonly produced by dyslexics. A summary of errors in pronunciation shows errors in pronunciation as mispronounced phonemes, and errors in writing are displayed as erroneously written characters.

Abstract:

A family of pill splitters is formed from a standard, substantially cylindrical lower body which contains a distinct bed for each one of a number of different complex pill shapes, and an upper body, integrally affixed to the lower body, which contains a pair of linear plunger guides slots. Each bed contains a recess having a cross section which substantially conforms to the pill shape, and the bed thickness is proportional to the thickness of the pill to be split. A long, thin cutting blade is affixed in proximity to the bed, and a bed support is formed in the lower body. A plunger with plunger guides slidingly engages the plunger guide slots. Each bed contains alignment tabs which engage the plunger guide slots to align the bed relative to the cutting blade.

Abstract:

A quartering pill splitter includes a bed having a recess formed within, the recess having a cross section which substantially conforms to the pill shape. A thin, cruciate cutting blade assembly is disposed below the pill bed, so that the pill, when inserted into the recess, rests on the cutting edges of the cruciate cutting blade assembly. A plunger, containing an upper compression member is moveable with respect to the cutting blade assembly and is forceably engaged against the pill disposed in the bed recess when the user strikes the cap of the plunger, thus cutting the pill into quarters in a single stroke. The cruciate cutting blade assembly contains a first blade and a second blade at a right angle relative to the first blade, and which is offset from the first blade a distance equal to the thickness of the first blade.

Abstract:

A signal isolation system includes an aeroisolator to couple output signals to an electronic device. The aeroisolator is made from two commercial miniature earphones, each having a ferro-magnetic diaphragm activated by a voice coil in proximity to a permanent magnet. The diaphragm is removed from one of the earphones, and the two earphones are then disposed in proximity to each other, with the diaphragm in proximity to the voice coil of each.

Abstract:

A pill splitter splits a pill in quarters along a major axis and a minor axis The pill splitter has a lower body, and an upper body, integrally affixed to the lower body. A rotating bed receptacle is rotatingly affixed in the pill splitter, and contains a bed substantially conforming to the pill shape. A membrane, disposed below the bed, contains a cruciate cutout into which are formed a major axis slit and a minor axis slit. A long, thin cutting blade is disposed below and in proximity to the bed receptacle. In use the, receptacle is rotated to a position so that the cutting blade is disposed beneath the one axis slit and beneath the corresponding axis of the pill. A blow struck to a plunger aligned with the blade by plunger slots and guides cuts the pill along the chosen axis.

A universal pill splitter as an upper pill splitter body with a cutting blade affixed to a lower side of the upper body and a lower body rotating affixed to the upper body, with two pill stops affixed to the upper side of the lower body, with a slide slidingly affixing to the lower body, wherein the slide further contains two pill guides at either side of a slot centrally located in the slide body, so that when a pill is place on the lower body against the pill stops and the slide is pushed forward so that it engages the pill, pressing it securely against the pill stops, the pill may be split by rotating the upper body toward the lower body, thereby driving the cutting blade against a top of the pill.

Abstract:

A software based method of automatically recording and scoring tests is practiced on a system including a computer, a digital pen and a sheet of digitized paper, the method first establishing a number of virtual fields on the digitized paper, each which may contain either one allowable mark, or a multiplicity of allowable marks, marking of the paper using the digital pen, and for each such mark determining the field in which the mark is made, if the field may contain only one allowable mark, then recording that mark, and if the field may contain more than one allowable mark, then using character recognition means to identify the mark, and then calculating a test result based on the marks made, the characters corresponding to each, and a scoring protocol.
