Abstract:

The trading card/video game system includes a conventional video game control system for a selected video game involving a number of different characters. The video game control system controls a monitor/screen for displaying the playing of the game. Trading cards are selected by the individual players for playing of the game. Each trading card is a character having selected characteristics and abilities, or a specialty card which affects the characters in the game or the conditions of the game, including the rules. The individual selected trading cards are scanned and the information associated with the trading cards is downloaded from a website database to which the system is connected via the internet to the software control system portion of the system. The website has a number of capabilities with respect to the individual trading cards, including verification of authenticity and ownership of the cards and a capability of assisting in the trading, temporary use, sale or acquisition of trading cards.

The system includes a control system (12) which carries out the performance of a video sports game, such as a baseball game, and controls the display on a video monitor (14). Input information concerning the performance of players in the game is supplied via trading card elements (20--20), each of the trading card elements having a conventional trading card appearance which includes a photograph of the player and performance data in human-readable form. The trading card element (20) also includes machine-readable performance information (input data) which is readable by a card reader (22) which applies the input data on the card to the control system (12), which then creates the two teams and carries out the game.

A method and apparatus for managing variations in a product structure for a product comprising a data manager and a visualizer. The data manager is configured to manage variations in the product structure using a model. The model includes a group of master objects having a primary hierarchical organization and a group of configuration objects having a number of secondary hierarchical organizations. Each secondary hierarchical organization in the number of secondary hierarchical organizations is associated with the primary hierarchical organization and configured to represent a variant of the product.
