Abstract:

A locking mechanism is provided. The locking mechanism includes a mounting plate that carries a locking hook. The locking hook is pivotal with respect to the mounting plate and may be pivoted from an unlocked position to a locked position. A motor is in communication with a locking hook, and is capable of causing the locking hook to be pivoted to the locked position. The locking mechanism may be opened by use of an electronic key, and may contain electronics capable of recording the date and time a particular key was used to open the locking mechanism. Also, the locking mechanism may be capable of being locked without the use of the motor when the motor is disabled due to power disruption or other circumstances.

Abstract:

A business evaluation system generates for a stock investor a financial report that evaluates a business entity offering stock for sale. The system includes a pledge account in which to deposit pledge money; and, a portal including a memory for storing for a plurality of stock investors profile data, and the quantity of money pledged by each stock investor for the business entity. The memory also stores a pledge database containing the total pledge amount for the business entity. The system also includes a computer operably connected to the memory and operable to receive for each stock investor profile data and the amount of money pledged by each stock investor for the business entity, to direct pledge money to the pledge account, and to determine when a threshold amount of pledge money is received for the business entity. The system also includes a system to withdraw pledge money from the pledge account and to generate independently of the business entity an independent completed evaluation report for the business entity when the threshold amount of pledge money is received; and, a system to permit access to the completed independent evaluation report by stock investors that contributed money to the pledge account.

A half-bridge variable differential transformer position sensing system that includes a transducer having a stator with an inductive coil having a center tap configured to provide an output signal. The transducer also has an armature with a magnetically permeable core configured to move within the inductive coil, such that movement of the magnetically permeable core causes a change in the output signal. The position sensing system includes a first circuit configured to provide an excitation signal at one terminal of the inductive coil. The system includes no more than three electrical interface wires, and a microcontroller configured to calculate the degree of change in the position of the magnetically permeable core, and is configured to correct for variations in the voltage of the output signal due to the temperature of the transducer and due to non-linear effects on the output signal caused by movement of the magnetically permeable core.

A socket for use in a test system is provided, where the test system is configured to align at least a portion of an electronic device with a plurality of aligned connectors. The socket can include a metal structure having a plurality of openings, the plurality of openings spaced to accommodate the plurality of aligned connectors. Abstract:

A reel assembly for a gaming machine includes a reel structure adapted for rotation about a motor output shaft. A drive lever is adapted for connecting the output shaft to the reel structure at a point radially spaced from the output shaft to provide a resilient, radially extending coupling between the output shaft and the reel structure. The drive lever is of sufficient length to allow flexing thereof and is capable of storing energy at the start of rotation to cause the reel structure to be suddenly rotated by the restored energy. The drive lever has a terminal end mounted to said reel structure in a manner that prevents tangential movement of said terminal end relative to said reel structure. Thus, the drive lever flexes when the output shaft starts to rotate until the inertia of the reel structure is overcome, whereupon the drive lever returns to its initial shape and causes rotation of the reel structure, thereby reducing the start-up torque and power required to overcome the inertia of the reel structure.

Abstract:

A retractable antenna for a portable communication device. The antenna retracts to a size within a portable communicator, such as a cell phone, which is smaller than the extended size of the antenna, while being flexible and otherwise suitable for the demanding environment of portable communicators. The antenna includes a contact sleeve which moves relative to an elongated conductor of the antenna, and also moves with the antenna while allowing the antenna to maintain electrical contact with another element in the antenna or the communicator. The sleeve may be connected to a helical conductor which forms part of the antenna and remains outside the housing of the portable communicator. Alternatively, the sleeve may be conductive on its inner and outer portions to move with and connect the elongated conductor to separate retracted and extended contact points within the portable communicator. Separate sections of elongated conductor may also extend separately from ends of the sleeve, with each being relatively movable.
