Abstract:

An electronic still image camera and playback system can record image data on the proposed standard 47 mm magnetic floppy disk in a manner whereby the horizontal line resolution of the recorded data is substantially increased by separating alternate groups of image data for recording, respectively, on two tracks of the magnetic media. The two tracks of the image media may be either two adjacent standard tracks or two subtracks confined within the footprint or envelope of the standard track. The image data from the dual tracks is recombined by interleaving to provide a high resolution hard copy print or other visual display. Alternatively, the dual track recorded image data may be retrieved in a conventional manner to provide a conventional low resolution hard copy or other image display.

Abstract:

An electrooptic assembly for a light modulator, suitable for use in a printer, is constructed as a sequence of film-type layers of electrooptic material, particularly PLZT, supported upon a transparent substrate and having comb-electrode structures disposed as electrode layers at all of the interfaces between the layers of electrooptic material. The electrooptic layers and the electrode layers are readily fabricated by photolithography. A polarizer and an analyzer with crossed polarization axes are disposed on opposite sides of the electrooptic assembly along an optical path to provide, with the electrooptic assembly, an electrooptic modulator. Light passes via the optical path through the modulator upon energization of electrodes with an electric field transverse to a common direction of the electrodes. For use of the light modulator in a printer, a print-medium transport is provided to impart relative motion between the print medium and the optical path, the motion being in a direction perpendicular to a longitudinal dimension of comb electrode structures in the various electrode layers.

There is disclosed a scanning beam position indicating arrangement which is employed in an electronic printer for accurately clocking a writing beam of the printer as a function of writing beam position. One embodiment of a scanning beam position indicator arrangement utilizes a Fresnel mirror device. Another embodiment utilizes a holographic encoding element.
