Abstract:

A method of fabricating a scroll compressor of the type including an electric motor in driving engagement with an orbiting scroll member having an orbiting scroll vane in a shell extending along an axis between open ends. The method includes the steps of orientating the fixed scroll member angularly about the axis of the shell relative to the orbiting scroll member, and pressing the fixed scroll member having a fixed scroll vane axially into sealing engagement with the shell and into a predetermined spaced relationship with the orbiting scroll member with the scroll vanes of the scroll members in axially overlapping relationship for pumping action between the vanes.

Abstract:

In a refrigeration system having low and high stage compressors and a subcooler or economizer, economizer gas is selectively supplied to the compressor motors for cooling and to the suction of the high stage to increase capacity. By selectively controlling the delivery of the economizer gas, efficiency of the refrigeration system is increased.

Abstract:

Liquid refrigerant is injected into the motor of a motor-compressor to cool the motor. Refrigerant is also injected to control the discharge temperature of the compressor. The refrigerant for controlling the discharge temperature may be either excess refrigerant for cooling the motor or refrigerant injected into the compressor under the control of a thermal expansion valve.

Abstract:

Responsive to a request for refrigeration, a start up sequence is initiated and, if start up is achieved, a number of motor and compressor parameters of operation are sensed for controlling and protecting the compressor. Depending upon the nature of the sensed conditions, if necessary, the motor, and thereby the compressor, is either disabled or corrective action is initially taken to bring the parameters within an acceptable range. If corrective action is ineffective, the motor and thereby the compressor, is disabled.
